ROAD SCHOLAR PROGRAMS

Buffalo Roundup, Black Hills and Badlands

Program #5305

Feel the earth shake as 1500 bison charge over the hills. Experience, from the safety of the corrals, what it was like when herds numbering in the millions covered the plains. Sample secret recipes at the "Great American Buffalo Chili Cook-Off", admire the skills of mountain men, enjoy western music and the work of local artisans. Hike into the colorful dunes at Badlands National Park. Walk the President's Trail at Mt. Rushmore. Visit Crazy Horse Memorial and witness a mountain carving in process. Combine all this with the history of the Black Hills as local historians share stories of the Native Americans, pioneers, and gold miners who settled this area.
