Deadwood
Program #19165
When gold was found in Deadwood Gulch in 1875, throngs of men and women from every walk of life flocked to the area, either to search for gold themselves or to live off those who had found it already. The gold miners of that time took great risks in search of enormous wealth, and today descendants of those miners work underground alongside Nobel Prize winners to learn things of unimaginable worth about outer space and the origins of life. Uncover the people, places and circumstances that put the entire town of Deadwood on the National Register of Historic Places and made it one of the most storied places in our country, and enjoy field trips to learn the natural and human stories behind Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial and Badlands National Park.
